Course Overview
This continuing education course provides yoga teachers with a deep understanding of meditation, equipping them to guide their students confidently in meditation practices. Teachers will explore the philosophy, techniques, and neuroscience of meditation, alongside practical applications for diverse populations.
By the end of this course, participants will have the skills to integrate meditation into their teaching, create guided meditation scripts, and hold space for students in their meditative journeys.

Course Outline
Module 1: Foundations of Meditation (2 Hours)
• The roots of meditation in yoga philosophy: Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Bhagavad Gita references.
• Types of meditation in traditional yoga (Dhyana, Dharana, Samadhi).
• Modern definitions and evolving practices of meditation.
Activity: Journal activity on personal experiences with meditation and how they align with philosophical teachings.
Module 2: The Science of Meditation (2 Hours)
• Understanding how meditation impacts the brain (neuroplasticity, alpha waves, and mindfulness research).
• Physiological benefits: stress reduction, improved focus, and emotional regulation.
• The intersection of meditation, mindfulness, and yoga asana.
Activity: Experiential practice of mindfulness meditation followed by reflective journaling.
Module 3: Meditation Techniques (3 Hours)
• Overview of techniques:
• Breath awareness (Anapanasati).
• Mantra meditation (Japa).
• Loving-kindness meditation (Metta).
• Body scan and Yoga Nidra.
• Visualizations and affirmations.
• Designing meditation practices for different intentions (e.g., relaxation, focus, healing).
Activity: Record and submit one meditation technique and receive feedback.
Module 4: Leading Meditation (2 Hours)
• The art of holding space: creating a safe and inclusive environment.
• Writing and delivering guided meditation scripts.
• Common challenges students face in meditation (restlessness, mental chatter) and how to address them.
• Trauma-sensitive meditation: avoiding triggers and fostering safety.
Activity: Practice leading a guided meditation, incorporating voice tone, pacing, and presence.
Module 5: Integrating Meditation into Yoga Classes (1 Hour)
• Structuring meditation into yoga sequences: pre-asana, post-asana, or standalone sessions.
• Teaching meditation to beginners: breaking myths and easing hesitations.
• Using meditation to enhance personal practice and teaching.
Activity: Design a 10-minute meditation sequence to complement a yoga class theme.
Assessment & Certification
• Participants will be evaluated based on:
1. Participation in practical exercises and discussions.
2. A short written assignment: Create a meditation script for a specific audience or theme.
3. A final 5-minute guided meditation session led by the participant.
• Upon completion, participants receive a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Certificate (10 hours).
